What a terrible tragedy, NOT! Sprouts are MEGA YUCK. I have discovered that quite a lot of people of my acquaintance aren't keen on sprouts, but eat them with their Christmas dinner, like my family did, as they are a Christmas tradition. We dispensed with them a few years ago.

Fun fact: all leafy brassicas - cabbages, kale, sprouts, and cauliflowers - are members of a single species, brassica oleracea, and can breed freely with each other.

apparently the sprouts now available in our shops are not like the ones we used to buy .
The bitterness has been bred out of them giving them a much sweeter taste and sales have increased many fold
Mind you, I've always loved sprouts even as a kid mmmmmm !

We have broccoli and carrots with our Christmas dinner.
-
Don't like either of them much. I'm having runner beans and cauliflower, with a duck (much nicer than dry old turkey).

I have always loved sprouts. If they've gone sweet, that might just turn me off them.

As someone on Facebook said recently, "If you can count the sprouts, they're not done yet."
-
Some idiots phone 999 for the most trivial of reasons, I have just seen on Twitter someone dialled that number to ask where they could buy sprouts! :o

You could say it looks like I'll still be having the sprouts anytime L R and neither of us'll be having the Brussels.
Regards, ippy.

We used to put vinegar on them, to counteract the bitter taste.

Cooking sprouts with some nuts is considered somewhat a delicacy. Idid it once and was served the same once - result very good! As long as no one at Chrstmas dinner table has nut allergy of course. Most of us aren't but I actually do not like nuts generally. However have definitely enjoyed with sprouts and love to bite into one in Christmas pud.

my grandad used to put horse manure on his sprouts ,

I managed to cook a turkey joint, it was delicious. The sprouts were too... My cooking has been improving lately due to a change in circumstances - I didn't know how to make gravy until a few years ago.
My elderly neighbor is well out of it, she didn't even know it was Christmas when I called to check on her.
-
Well done you Spud!
I love Christmas dinner leftovers, had some for late breakfast this morning :D.

Any advance on piccalilli?
Regards, ippy

I don't like Piccalili (do sometimes like pickled onions), only Branston. Had some when I got in from work with bubble, cherry tomatoes and smoked salmon - yes odd combination but enjoyed - back to normal now for a while, just had tinned soup.

I find Morrison's own make pickles have a far better taste than most other makes but of course that's to my taste.
