anyone else been watching this new drama on telly/ 9pm ITV
I've got into it now but my main gripe with it is Francesca Annis as Vivien . She looks and sounds like an escaped dementia ward patient :o
What do you think?

Started watching it but lost interest. I didn't notice that about Francesca Annis but maybe that came later.

About 65 years ago Francesca Annis entered my adolescent life in a TV serial called "The Wind and the Rain". I fell helplessly in love with her and scoured the schedules looking for opportunities to gaze at her.
Thank you for letting me know about this programme. I don't care how demented she appears ...

Memory is an odd thing. I checked because it was before my time but you would appear to be remembering a play called The Wind and The Sun from 1960

Thank you (I was nearly right).
Yes, I now recall that the title referred to a story about a challenge between the wind and the sun as to who could cause a man to remove his cloak. The wind tried to blow the cloak off him - but he only drew it about him more tightly. The just shone on him - he was warm and comfortable and took off his cloak.
And by 1960 I was a little way beyond adolescence.

I remember Annis as very beautiful, can't remember how old I was, but felt awe-struck. I am enjoying the serial, barking mad as serials on TV often are, plus a great cast. Imelda Staunton playing the wicked witch, very funny. I think Annis and Rea together are great.

And of course she was absolutely perfect as Lily Langtry

She was, I remember 'Lily Langtree' well during A level years. Marvellous drama series and Francesca Annis was much admired by Vl formers everywhere! If I remember rightly it was very well cast overall.

Francesca Annis was in the showcase version of Cleopatra as Elizabeth Taylor's personal servant, but her part was edited out of the film when it went on general release.
