Title: Missed that James Drury is dead..

They didn't necessarily have anything to do with Indians.

'The Simpsons' had an episode featuring Dennis Weaver in which that fact was explored, Bart tries to bring Westerns back into popular culture. It was really funny, called 'The Lastest Gun in the West'. I recommend it if you can find it.

A modern western series is Yellowstone with Kevin Costner, I haven't seen but intend to get round to it eventually.

Godless also, a 7 episode mini series. Jeff Daniels is good as a baddie in that one.

I remember seeing a film on TV which was supposed to be a Western, but was set in about 1910. 'Brokeback Mountain' was set in the 1960s. 'Cowboys and Aliens', good fun though it was, really took the piss.
