Title: Happy Birthday!
Post by: Nearly Sane on June 13, 2020, 01:41:37 PM
I've been using birthdays on the quotes thread to give sone focus to the choice, which is why I quoted the genius that was Yeats today. I couldn't help but notice that it is also James Clerk Maxwell's birthday today, a stone cold genius, so I am starting a thread where we can note notable birthdays. It's a bit cheerier than the deaths.

So it's a happy birthday amongst others to Harriett Beecher Stowe and Donald Trump, but also Jerzy Kosinski who wrote Being There (or maybe didn't). Fascinating life

Amongst other birthdays Stravinsky, Escher and Mark Linn-Baker. I only mention Linn-Baker because it  makes me want to watch My Favourite Year - which contains a stunning performance from Peter O'Toole as not Errol Flynn.

Yep, as noted when I started the thread I was using birthdays to help select quotes which is why Charlotte Perkins Gilman appears on that thread today.

The Yellow Wallpaper is a great novella, and iirc correctly, I mentioned it in the Favourite Books thread.

Am reminded that it would be be Kirsty MacColl's birthday today. One of those celebrity deaths that affected me in ways I was surprised by. It's odd how sometimes you only realise what people you never knew meant to you until they die. We are a very strange animal.

Indeed. I was revisiting "Dinnerladies" by Victoria Wood yesterday, and that loss for some reason still upsets me.
