It sends a political message, but it's not really that important. Russia's GDP is smaller than ours.

It's also about prepping for the possible removal of the dollar as the default  currency by the US if the trade war between it and China escalates. If Trump wins this move will be accelerated.

Given the state of the USA and its trajectory if Trump wins again, is that a bad thing?

It's the sort of thing that makes  me want to be part of a larger trading block, possibly one with its own currency.
