I can see this happening with other countries too especially once Liz has gone.

I'd hope that a future independent Scotland would do the same.

They're your Royal Family.

They're your Royal Family.
Maybe so, in a formal sense, but I'd disenfranchise them by 5pm this evening if it were left to me, and I'd hope than in an independent Scotland sufficient numbers would feel as I do - and that we'd get the choice.

And?

And?
If a republic is favoured the political governance arrangements are adjusted without a role for the monarchy, and if the decision was to retain the monarchy then I suppose I'd have to accept that - I would like the opportunity to choose though.

Still not seeing the point. Surely the point is whether the monarchy is a good thing, not that the decision might be taken to keep it.

Indeed: my view is that the monarchy is anachronistic and I'd like to see its role in political governance arrangements removed.

I am English and tend to agree.

I agree too.
And I also think that the British parliamentary system is an anachronism. Three changes are necessary:
1 The electoral system should be changed so that the legislature reflects the ploitical make of the country
2 The House of Lords should be replaced by a representative Senate.
3 Guy Fawkes should rise from the dead, finish the job he started, and a new parliamentary building, ergonomically appropriate, built in somewhere like Milton Keynes.

What has Guy Fawkes got to do with the british parliament? Admittedly, he was trying to blow up Jamie the saxt, but that was in the English parliament, not the british one.

HH said nothing about which parliament but it would cover notionally the HoC and the HoL

There is no English parliament. The only parliamentary body responsible for English affairs is the British parliament. Guy Fawkes will not be concerned with Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish institutions.

Its role is almost zero already. The Queen is a constitutional head of state and the monarchy is really there just for show.

London is the only appropriate location for the British parliament. It's the centre of the United Kingdom in every resect except geographical. You need your government in the centre.

Wow. I didn't realise that New York City, Sydney and Amsterdam were so unimportant.
You are confusing "government" ie executive, with "parliament", ie law makers. It is quite likely that the executive should be in an important city. The legislature can be anywhere. The UK is unfortunate in having a legislature which is totally dominated by the executive. If only Montesquieu could examine the British system of government now.
