Hadn't seen that there was a new version of this that was shown on Channel 5. Watched the Christmas special last night and really enjoyed it.

Having read and re-read the Herriot books, this series was superb, and very much in tune with the books.
I loved it.
That's not to take anything from the Beeb's classic series, though.

I thought Samuel West was an excellent Siegfried.

I haven't see the new version of that series. But all the new versions of other programmes we have watched, like, 'Dad's Army', for instance, have been huge disappointments.
