Title: Joni Mitchell stands with Neil Young against Joe Rogan on Spotify
Post by: Nearly Sane on January 29, 2022, 06:22:59 AM
I could easily have put this on Politics and Current Affairs, as while this might seem to many like a little local difficulty, and many won't understand Spotify, or have not heard of Joe Rogan, this is going to be a common theme in the next few years. Digital 'ownership' of music, films, tv programmes has always been a misnomer. Even without the purity test being applied by Mitchell and Young here, rights to access content often disappears because of changes to contractual and copyright rights. I've always accepted the risk that what I've bought on a kindle may become not accessible to me because of such things. Yet those who have advocated 'Always get a hard copy' must live in a world of infinite storage.

I thought "hard copy" meant a print-out on paper of a document. Has the meaning changed?

In the sense NS is using it I think he means physical items. Books, CD's, DVD's, even LP's!

It is a vague worry that occurs to me occasionally as I read my kindle (I know you disapprove Steve) that maybe these books will not be available to me at some point because of this very kind of conflict. At that point I guess I'd just have to hunt down a proper book!

As for Neil Young & Joni Mitchell, I have the stuff I want of theirs on either vinyl or CD so I just feel smug.

I'm sure she will. I've adored JB for 50 years or more.
