Yep, I can't even see how you might go about it without an entirely dictatorial govt. And it's a bit like democracy, you can identify problems with family, particularly in a society that could be argued as corrosive to community, but it's better than all the alternatives.

I think these kinds of idea were all explored in China during the early parts of the Cultural Revolution, to be later abandoned.
