Title: French pension reforms: Is Macron's government doomed by crisis?
Post by: Nearly Sane on March 19, 2023, 09:07:34 AM
I have a friend, an American in Paris, who would be regarded as quite left wing for an American, who is finding his views of trade unions being  challenged by what's happening in France.

In what way are his views being challenged? Is he for them and thinks these protests are misguided or is he against them but approving of the way they are fighting for workers' rights?

He's in favour of unions but isn't necessarily seeing thay either the subject or the methods are reasonable. Ot's much more political in terms of the fight than sranding up fpr doughty workers in his USican view.

Was it reasonable of Macron to push a law through using 49:3 without due process?

I have to say I somewhat admire the French workers and their attitude. By comparison their neighbours seem very lily-livered.

No, he was shocked by that as well. I did find it that someone who was in the States for the Trump presidency being shocked by such things a little odd. But he hadn"t expected the battle to be so purely political.

There is a Scots word thrawn and it reminds me of the French here.
