In late news, Pope revealed to be a Catholic, and bears observed using arboreal regions for defecatory purposes.

But the problem is that teenagers believe that what they see is real and normal.

They fail to appreciate that much of what they see on their computer screens is performed by actors under direction.

A bit of a dismissive post, Steve.

Surely the problem is that unlike when most of us were growing up when porn was top shelf material and of a very tame nature, now children are exposed to much more graphic content which is much easier to view, and some of which is going to cause unreasonable expectations as to what is possible, and more importantly will confuse issues around what is considered consent. It is a real problem for those involved in trying to give a realistic portrayal of sexual intimacy to teenagers (and younger).

How do we know what harm this causes? I remember being exposed to all sorts of unrealistic stuff as a child (not pornography, other than the magazines my friend and I found in his dad's wardrobe) but I had no trouble separating it from reality.

Has there been any serious research into the effects of internet porn on teenagers? Or is this just adults bemoaning it because we find the topic embarrassing.

I think there has been research. How you would classify it as serious I don't know. This seems sober and realistic to me:

Thank you. That's an interesting article. I was actually a little surprised at the approach they took, which seems to be "we can't stop pornography, so let's make it ethical". I think that is sensible and pragmatic.
