Title: Ofsted and Ruth Perry: The dam has burst on strength of feeling

It's difficult to see the issues clearly when they are seen in the shadow of a tragedy

I know of an Ofsted inspection that had adverse consequences for a school and one of the staff involved committed suicide while on subsequent sick leave.
That was years ago and I wonder why discontent with Ofsted has taken this long to surface. From what teachers tell me Ofsted could be the next Met.

Racism, homophobia and misogyny in Ofsted?  Possibly, and certainly their current methods and processes need review, but there must be some mechanism for checking school standards. And, any tests or checks can cause undue or excessive stress in some people subject to them.

The Wikipedia entry Ofsted ends with a section titled Criticisms. It is sufficiently up-to-date to include a reference to Ruth Perry's suicide.

Quite damning criticisms.

It is a shame then that you can get away with the most appalling abusive power relationship as long as you aren't misogynistic, racist or homophobic.
Since teaching is a mainly female profession I wouldn't rule out the possibility of misogyny.
It sounds like an inquiry into it's activities is long overdue and it has basked in an invincible aura of a righteous mission for too long.
