Title: Men's ODI Cricket World Cup
Post by: Nearly Sane on October 04, 2023, 04:58:07 PM
That it's going to be partly held during the monsoon season indicates that it's a format in trouble. Can't help but think more teams and less matches by having groups would have made more sense.

India win a topsy turvy match with Australia quite easily in the end. After each side has played 1 match, England at bottom of table.

Though each side has another 8 matches to play.

Good win for England but Pakistan's close win over Sri Lanka not the best result for them. League of 10 on this while fair just seems a bit meandering.

England 'jump up' to 9th after South Africa beat Bangladesh. Looking as if India, New Zealand, and South Africa will make the semi finals, with Australia likely to be the 4th.

We've just passed half way in the group stage matches with 23 of 45 played.

This is the first time ever an international cricketer has been timed out.

Normally, I'd say fine, but the delay was caused by the batsman trying to adjust safety equipment. I don't think we should be putting people in situations where they might be endangering themselves to avoid being given out.

I agree - it is one thing if you simply take too long to get there, quite another is your helmet strap breaks. Had he face a ball there would be no question that he'd have been allowed a 'time out' to replace the helmet, or gloves, or even his bat.

In fact, he did take too long to get there. In the World Cup you get two minutes and even without the helmet strap incident, he was over that.

I think the helmet strap incident only drew attention to the fact that he took too long to get to the crease.
