Quite - I'm underwhelmed by Starmer and his Starmeristas, but they'll nevertheless be a big improvement on Risky and his chums.

It would appear not to be a secret at all. Though I would suggest that it's about keeping the option open at the moment. Having a GE in conjunction with local elections can help out in a number of ways. It means more people are involved so you encourage local Tories to turn out and campaign when they might not for the GE. You can say you are saving money and doing it for the country. It might be that a blip is caused by 'events', maybe Starmer runs over David Attenborough, and you don't waste it.
