Title: Infected blood: Hundreds of victims living with undetected hepatitis C
Post by: Nearly Sane on May 09, 2024, 10:14:33 AM
I find it hard to comprehend how easy the tragedies caused here are for us to live with as a society.

That we are decades after much of this and it's taken this long for much of it to come out is a sad indication that something similar could be happening now.

It seems to me incredible that the UK govt did not start an inquiry at the same time as the original Scottish Govt one.

And more generally that inquiries are so slooooooooowwwww

I hope that this will help some people after all this time. Will be interesting to see the reactions to the publishing of the report tomorrow.

Calls for Ken Clarke to lose his peerage. Seems reasonable to me.

He was probably just repeating what he was told by his advisors. Personally, I think our energy would be better directed to making sure it couldn't happen now or in the future.

It doesn't read anything like thar, and if he's merely a puppet he doesn't need to have been rewarded for that. One way to avoid it happening again is having some form of accountability.

Yes it does.

For fuck's sake. Taking advice from experts doesn't make you a puppet.

Frankly, I think this is really petty. We should be focused on what can be done to stop this from happening again and punitive punishments for those involved decades ago doesn't encourage openness which is what you need if you want to learn lessons from past screw ups.

I'm sorry, but taking away Ken Clark's peerage is just childish vindictiveness and won't help anybody.

And I think you are backing up inaction which will precisely lead to repetition because you absolve people of any accountability.
