Title: HMRC letters saying you owe them money
Post by: Roses on September 24, 2024, 02:52:22 PM
Have any of you received letters purporting to come from HMRC saying you owe them money? My husband received one today, which seemed a bit dodgy. I heard on the Morning Live programme that some of them could be a scam.

Another one to look out for is the DVLA & DVSA telling you that there is an outstanding fine for some kind of traffic violation. In my case complete bollocks as I had gone to Bournemouth on the train for the date given.

My mother got a whole load purporting to be from a collection agency, collecting on behalf of HMRC. She was explicitly told in the letter not to contact HMRC directly. Hmmm....

It was a scam.

The letter is genuine according to our eldest daughter and she will sort it out. My husband can no longer do it having only half a working brain after his brain haemorrhage in 2006.
