Needs more details but if you are building a white elephant, and are committed to it, might as well put it where it would make sense.

If they had stuck to the original plan, it wouldn't be a white elephant. Not only that, but it wouldn't have cost so much.

The London terminus which would have made sense is St Pancras.

Euston makes more sense to me. It's a line that goes to Birmingham (and originally Manchester) just like the existing lines to Euston.
