Seems to be a very sensible appointment. I think Mandelson is one of the few people with the political skill to be able to walk the fine line of maintaining good relationships with the Trump administration without being forced to side with one or the other of the US or the EU. He's an ex EU trade negotiator which should also help.

Agree, I think it will appeal to his vanity to have a political appointment in the role.
