Mandela - Long Walk to Freedom
« on: November 12, 2016, 09:13:35 PM »
In case anyone is interested and hasn't noticed, and isn't going to watch all of the Festival of Remembrance,  the film of Nelson Mandela's autobiography, 'Mandela - Long Walk to Freedom' with Idris Elba, is on tonight at 9.30, BBC2.

I am looking forward to it, read the book years ago.

Thanks for that, Brownie.  I'll be going to bed early this evening having had a manic week - but perhaps I'll record it - or catch up with it on iPlayer.
Are your, or your friends'/relatives', garages, lofts or sheds full of unused DIY gear, sewing/knitting machines or fabric and haberdashery stuff?

Hope you do, Hope.  It's bound to be shown on TV again.

I was engrossed from start to finish and the two hours, twenty minutes went surprisingly quickly.  The film was absolutely true to the book from my recollection,  harrowing and moving.

Idris Elba played Nelson Mandela very well, he had his accent and the way the man phrased his sentences though not the higher vocal pitch;  presumably Idris couldn't do that but, after a while, I didn't notice it any more, he was so in character.

He gave a little talk about his preparation for the role and the film in general just before it started which was interesting.

I recommend for anyone who hasn't already seen it - or even if they have, I'd certainly watch it again.
