I came to realise that every time we recognise something human in creatures, we are also recognising something creaturely in ourselves. That is central to the rejection of human supremacism as the pernicious doctrine it is.

Asterix loomed large in my French lessons at school in the 1960's - our French teacher, the wonderfully named Mr Luxembourg, who was a continental chappie, was a fan: I've fond memories of him, since he was round and jolly and his lessons were great fun, and he introduced us to Asterix.

I went to the Asterix theme park in France a few years back - also great fun.
