I think the problem is that people see it as an issue of bumbling incompetence vs the potential for catastrophic incompetence, rather than callous indifference vs who knows because no-one can work out what the hell Starmer actually stands for vs are any of the Liberal Democrats still alive vs 'Shit Show' Farage's latest publicity stunt.
2: Are we turning into America? If the largely secular part of the population think the minority part should shut the fuck up and stop spoiling the national ambience then the answer is yes....we are turning into America.
You just need to look at the headlines surrounding the Dobbs case in the US Supreme Court to see how far away from reality that comment is - we used to let people have opinions in this country, and if you weren't in the majority you had to suck it up. Now we have former majorities - like the vocal Christians - whining that someone's upset their feelings and expecting the world to change because of it.
