I regard football as interminably boring (on a good day) but I'm fairly sure he didn't play for Manchester City.

I do support Man City. Giggs has never been part of the club though

Seem to remember that his few matches in charge following Moyes' departure were quite successful.  He has an amazing footbvalling brain.

I am aware that he is doing well at the moment, but he has a team - he doesn't work alone.  Look at the Welsh rugby team; they have a number of past players who provide support and skills advice.  Why not Wales' football team.

Many were predicting a win, but even they were also saying that England has a history in such situations.

He hasn't been in charge at MUFC for 2 years.  I seem to recall an interview with van Gaal where LvG commended Giggs on his input.

I am aware that Coleman renewed his contract just before the Euros - but not sure where the coaching team members stand contractually.

There are no tactics all you have to do is get the ball in the net there is no alternative way to score. You are only allowed to move the ball by kicking it or heading it. How much "brain" does that require?

Clearly you've never played football properly, john.  As you may have noticed last Monday evening, a lot of the commentators were complaining about the fact that the England players and even Roy Hodgson seemed to have no plan.  Planning requires brains, and football requires well-thought out tactics.

There are no tactics all you have to do is get the ball in the net there is no alternative way to score. You are only allowed to move the ball by kicking it or heading it. How much "brain" does that require?

You seem to forget that there is an opposition trying to stop you doing just that, john.  They too will likely have a well-though out plan or tactics.  When the two sets of tactics clash, resulting in a dearth of goals or more gaols to the other side, one or other side has to rework their tactics on the hoof in order to nullify the other team's tactics.  That requires considerable brain power.

I think it is time to leave the nest.  He has been at Old Trafford for 29 years, and there is no way they were going to pick him as manager.  He could have stayed as some kind of youth coach, but this seems humiliating.   He has to go and see if he is any good in management.   If he is, he might be able to come back one day.   I notice that some fans are getting irritated with him, so best to go now.

Football brains?  A lot to do with an instinctive grasp of geometry, plus of course, technical ability.

A recent example of footballing brains was Ramsey in the last Wales game.  I thought he was sensational, and if you had a camera tracking him for 90 minutes, I think you would see his positional awareness, and that includes awareness of his team-mates and his opponents, and then his ability to pass the ball into unexpected areas, and of course, great technique.   I suppose calling it 'brains' sounds odd, as it's not intellectual, more instinctive.  Football is geometry on grass, with heavy lifting.

Fergie and Wenger were both very average players, who became great managers. Mourinho didn't even play professionally.

In fact  the only person inducted to the English Football Hall of Fame as both a player and a manager is Alf Ramsey.
