I think he's probably right - once we're back to normal, there'll be an outbreak of hedonism.
I came to realise that every time we recognise something human in creatures, we are also recognising something creaturely in ourselves. That is central to the rejection of human supremacism as the pernicious doctrine it is.

I wonder if the 1920s were roaring in part as a reaction to WW1 and the flu pandemic.

Well that's obviously the theory. I am somewhat cynical of the idea as if it applies, it applied to a very very small section of society. Given changes in the makeup of society, it might apply to a wider group in people but for the vast majority it will pass them by

This is true. The 1920s only roared for the rich and comfortably off.
