Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face!
« on: December 27, 2019, 11:49:50 AM »
Looking forward to Burns night in January, and must see if I can buy a haggis online. I've had haggis, neeps and tatties at Wetherspoons, and loved it, but I dare say one can do better than that. I sometimes wish I was Scottish (or Scotch - I used to enjoy pissing off Dale, whom some may remember from other forums (and possibly from this one - I'm not sure he was ever a member here (oh, look - I've used nested brackets (I like doing that))), by saying "Scotch" when not referring to whisky. As recently as the 1950s, it was a U/non-U thing: "Scotch" was posh, "Scottish" was common, except that everyone, posh or pleb, called whisky "Scotch".)
I came to realise that every time we recognise something human in creatures, we are also recognising something creaturely in ourselves. That is central to the rejection of human supremacism as the pernicious doctrine it is.

Buying online is easy, see link for one of the best ones, but lots of supermarkets in England stock them around this time.

You'll get a bog-standard blend of whisky anywhere...but try a single malt (or two) from various parts of the country. You'll be surprised at the different flavours. As for haffis? My local butcher makes 'em - and they are superb. (Mainly, of course, because there is an understandable ban on shooting the real thing nowadays.)
