I'm surprised that Argos have even been around for 48 years. I'd never heard of them in 1972, nor 1982, nor even, I don't think, 1992.

I don't remember Argos all those years ago, I have only been using them from time to time since the 90s.

It's inevitable really. It must cost millions to print the catalogue and then laminate the pages for in-store use. It will be much simpler and more environmentally friendly just to use electronic kiosks.

I think that it started as Green Shield Stamps - with stamp exchange centres rather than shops. Tesco stopped giving stamps and the company's current business took over.

I must admit to taking the catalogues every six months - and then hardly ever consulting them. I think that the new arrangement is sensible.

I have no interest in any catalogues, and get irritated when sent them, they go straight in the recycling bag.

Me too LittleR but I did use the Argos catalogue sometimes years ago. I remember reading it in bed once when recovering from 'flu, thinking, "To what have I been reduced?". It was handy to have one before internet took over.
