Should the Garrick admit women?
« on: March 19, 2024, 05:20:39 PM »
I don't think it's necessary, since there's nothing stopping women founding a women-only club, and at least one such exists to my knowledge, so there isn't an equality issue. However I'll be very surprised if everyone on here agrees with me.

I came to realise that every time we recognise something human in creatures, we are also recognising something creaturely in ourselves. That is central to the rejection of human supremacism as the pernicious doctrine it is.

I think the question here is the preponderance of senior members of the legal profession rather than just that it is a single sex club, so not sure if your comparison works.

ETA - here's a list of 'gentleman's clubs' in London quite a few are still men only, so it's not that the Garrick is unique.
