Charles Kennedy
« on: June 02, 2015, 07:55:00 AM »

I have previously on here announced deaths of friends that I knew at university, at too young an age, and now another. Not a close friend but one I spent a lot of time with thirty years ago. I remember the shock when he got elected. Mortality seems to hang heavy this morning.

Very sad news - a rare thing, a politician who was genuinely funny.

Far too soon.

Very sad - by all accounts he was a decent and honourable man, and politics could do with more like him. Not fair!

Very saddened by this news.

Always struck me as a decent man even when not agreeing with everything he said.

Yes, sensitively done - and utterly heartbreaking. His son is about the same age as mine.

Also add my condolences he was a very likable and principaled man (sadly lacking today) even if I didn't agree with everything he said he said it well.

RIP Charles.

Like others, I always felt he was worth listening to, even if I didn't always agree with him.

Breaking news is that a PM has revealed that Charles Kennedy's death was caused by a major internal haemorrhage consistent with alcoholism. No further details yet (not on BBC news anyway, which I'm watching) but I would suspect a condition called oesophageal varices.

So very sad - a genuinely (and I think obviously) good man laid low too soon :(

That's terribly sad. Been thinking a good deal about him and his family the past few days.  :(

He was an alcoholic, so it's not a surprise.

It is a pity Kennedy gave no thought to his child and continued to drink, therefore committing suicide in effect! >:(

I think discussing that here might be difficult.  I've started a new thread http://www.religionethics.co.uk/index.php?topic=10401.new#new

Moderator:

As has been noted by some members there are some posts are unsuited to this Board so in view of the other thread I'm going to split these (and posts pointing out the problem) from this thread.

Done - those wishing to discuss others aspects should do so using the thread started by Jeremy (see previous post).

His death was sad news. It is a year almost since a friend in early forties died from more or less the same thing... May they bot be at rest.
