But it was an obscure and oblique statement on it and one which applies to the EU ruling classes and technocrats, hence the appalling way Greece was treated. Germany and Merkel are doing exactly as you say people act and the elites of Brussels too. What makes you think they are saints? And where is the rule of law to be applied to them so as to provide the necessary brakes on the moral hazards they do and will inflict on the people?

How on earth you manage to deduce all that from my post is beyond me.

It is a fact that we should be aiming to improve the lot of deprived people and uniting all nations in peace and democracy. I was merely pointing out one reason why it is a very difficult.

The 'Ever Closer Union' phrase is to be deleted,
Who says? And if they do they are lying. No it is not, it is there at the heart of the EU project!!!

...but it will always be a fact that we share a common culture and common values with our European partners and the EU is a valuable mechanism to protect those values in an ever threatening world.
We do not have common values with all the EU members, that is the problem. Common culture? You must be mad if you really think this!!!

As for protection the ruling EU elite don't care about the people. We saw this with Greece and it will come true for the other southern med members.

P.S. I'm not sure how 'Eastern Acoustic Works' relates to the argument?
I note your avoidance, a sure sign that you have lost the argument. And a crappy joke as well that shows the paucity of your feasible mind.

The EU has not brought peace - look at how Greece was treated, a sign of a class war which is showing its face by people voting for non pro-EU parties. Many people in the US are voting for Trump not because they agree with him but he is the only one 'fighting' against the status quo of the mainstream parties. The political and corporate elites have created a class war.

Democracy? Yeah right - and pigs will fly.

That is part of Cameron's agreement and it's acknowledged that since the phrase offends certain sections of the UK electorate we can be exempt .It's not a major issue from the EU  perspective.

I'm sorry but I do fundamentally disagree with you there.

At a time when liberal democracy is under threat from many directions how do our values and interests differ significantly from our European partners?

Would you feel happier if we moved closer to the influence of China or Russia ? - Cultures that most of us would find much more alien and less democratic. Or even America - certainly democratic, but probably not to most peoples taste.

Then there is the tide of militant Islam that threatens us all!

In that light those awful Germans who claim all the sunbeds suddenly don't seem so bad.

I'm sorry Jack but 'Eastern Acoustic Works' was the only obvious thing that google could find for EAW.

Perhaps you would like to elaborate?

Let me show you what a load of bollocks that is. Apply what you have said to my quotes in my OP and #3. Especially what Junker said:-

‘When it becomes serious, you have to lie.’

Liberal democracy is under threat from the EU and the elites it panders to. As I have said the EU is as dangerous as the Soviet Union, just give it time. Their history and legal system is totally different and is based on ntion s and principles different from ours. We have more common features to our Commonwealth friends than to mainland Europe.

And why do you think there is this threat from militant Islam? Something about the arrogant West policies of unaccountable greed and self interest.

For someone who claims to understand the EU - and if not on what basis are you arguing here if you have no background knowledge of it - then you should know what EAW means in the context of the discussion. If you are having to us Gargoyle to get your information because you haven't done your homework over the years on the EU then you are talking out of your arse!!!
