Chris Smith was a minister in the Labour years under Blair.

Brownie, he's not up for a post now. That is Justine Greening.

Floo you are quite wrong - if I was Education Secretary I'd have all the children being put up chimneys and sent down mines. and I'd confiscate their smartphones and make them play out in the middle of a busy street. Oh and I'd bring back sweets with enormous quatities of unhealthy chemicals in them so that they keep their parents up all night. My sexuality wouldn't make me a good Education Secretary - I fully accept that, indeed I embrace it!  :P

I know!  I thought floo was talking about Justine Greening when she said, "Never heard of him?", asking you if you'd never heard of him.  What I said about being up to the job and sexuality irrelevant was about Greening.

Are we allowed to assume someones sex/gender from their name?
Ah, but I was so much older then ... I'm younger than that now

I said I had never heard of Chris Smith.

I see Leadsom is Secretary of State for Environment.

Error in typing on my part, not gender confusion (must be the Yorkshire accent).  It was floo who asked if Trent had ever heard of him, or rather suggested he had never heard of him.  She probably meant "her" though, as she had heard of him.  I mean her.

No, just seen her post and she was talking about Chris Smith.  So why the question mark?
Never mind, we all know Chris Smith is not Christine.

Seems to be just another random appointment. Does she know anything about farming, climate change etc..?

Maybe it is all OK ... energy/climate change dept has been abolished and when the farmers come looking for replacements for EU handouts - she should have lots of money left over from the £350m p/w.

Leadsom should be OK at Environment; after all, she has children.
They were the footprints of a gigantic hound!

The list of appointments on BBC website (see jeremy's post #57 for link) seems to show a predominance of Remainers, but Leavers in 'leave'/EU-related posts.
Are your, or your friends'/relatives', garages, lofts or sheds full of unused DIY gear, sewing/knitting machines or fabric and haberdashery stuff?

The damage is already done. A lot of people have been hurt by this and a lot of foreigners' perception of this country is that England is full of nasty small minded racists.
"Full"? Then that must include you then.

No it wasn't. You are incredibly naïve and myopic. If you look at the foundations of the global economy it is bust and is going to explode soon.

What one expects and what actual happens is often two different things; lets see who will be right...

FFS

Hunt remains at Health.

Another few years of mispronouncing his name.
From what I can tell this is May's only poor judgement on her Cabinet and what a gaff!!!

...unless she's left him in there to sweat it out and then kick him out.

Dear Joan,

So we have de Pefeffel and Mr Davis heading up the Brexit negotiating, yes? both Brexiteers, so it is simply a case, you broke it, you can fix it, is that right?

Gonnagle.
May has covered her ass by allowing the Brexiteers to do the deed. So if they mess up they get the abuse because they wanted Brexit and she didn't. If she doesn't touch it then she won't get tainted by it.

Except many of the remainers weren't exactly that keen. I gather Phil Hammond, the new Chancellor, said in 2011 he would vote leave in a referendum. And of course May wasn't exactly that vocal about staying in.

Never heard of him?
The fact that you have never heard of him doesn't mean he wasn't an openly gay cabinet minister.

Look up the meaning of the word "perception" and then cogitate on why I used it in the sentence you quoted.

Then you are blaming the immigrates for being ignorant and stupid for coming to the wrong and bias conclusion based on gossip and no evidence.

I'm not talking about immigrants, I am talking about other Europeans all over Europe. And yes, their perception is wrong as I have to keep pointing out because 48% of us are not racist.

All the doom and gloom that came from the Remain prestigious academics who said Brexit would bring in the collapse of the UK have been proved wrong - these being the same lot who said if we didn't join the Euro the UK would become a backwater. Oh, actually we are doing fairly well in the present economic climate and the Euro is falling apart.

Except they haven't.

Indeed just about every one of their predictions is already beginning to materialise. So just today we've seen a surge in inflation, largely due to the crash in sterling. Plus also growth forecasts slashed yet again.

Jack, I'd suggest that

Are they?

Anyway, we are now well on our way to becoming a backwater. Once Scotland buggers off, the process will be complete.
