For Barbara
« on: December 11, 2016, 01:41:35 PM »
Barbara is an 86 year old lady, a widow, who lives in North Wales.

Until recently she has always been very fit and well and is an independent person.  She paints pictures.

I heard on Friday that Barbara has been in hospital and had an operation for bowel cancer.

She didn't tell me where precisely the tumour was or details of the op, only that the surgeons didn't want to operate because of her age but she said, "Go ahead anyway", so they did.   They told her, apart from the obvious, she was extremely well judging by all her tests.

She's a brave lady.

Back home now, a nurse came to remove stitches and Barbara is coping.

Please remember her in your prayers.

(My laptop has gone to the repair shop, hopefully I'll get it back in a week or so;  I'm currently using the media centre and I hate posting, sitting perched in front of the telly, so won't be here too often until my 'puter comes back.   Thank you for prayers for Barbara.)

Thank you all so much.

Bearing in mind that I do not know how extensive, or where, Barbara's bowel cancer was, nor what sort of operation she had, my main concern is once she is over the op, that she is comfortable, pain free, mobile and able to live independently which I know is what she wants.

As she has always been so physically fit and healthy, I have a feeling that she will recover from this and be around for some time longer.   However I don't know that and no-one can predict what will happen.  Only God knows.  86 is very elderly even by today's standards.

So, once again, thanks for your prayers and I am praying too.

Hello Brownie

Sorry to hear about your friend, but she sounds like a remarkable lady. I will remember her in my prayers and wish her a sound recovery.

I heard today from Barbara that she is very well, been out and about.
She went to hospital on Tuesday of last week and the team are very pleased with her progress.

In her words:  "They were able to take away the cancer of the bowel but I have cancer in lymph nodes.   I go again on 30th December and they will decide what treatment."

Usually, in someone of her age who is quite well in themselves, the treatment is palliative unless it is decided to remove a couple of nodes, depends what they are like.  People go on for a long time with that.

I'm pleased she is well which is the most important thing.  I won't say anything to her about what is the 'usual' treatment, etc, or what to expect but leave that to the medics.

She said it did help to know I cared and I was extremely touched by that being as she has never before said anything at all like it.

Thank you all for prayers.  I expect I'll hear from her in new year and will let you know what is happening.

Held up in prayer. (And, shared with a local prayer chain)

Following on from other conversations, being as Barbara is feeling very well, she is in the extremely fortunate position of being able to please herself over the next few days!  I know for a fact that she appreciates that.  Long may it continue.

Lord God,

Barbara is 86 and right now needs the cancer to clear and leave her healthy.
In your mercy reach out and find healing for her in the world or by your power.
I pray for all families with members who have cancer. Be their peace at this time
and let them all find their needs met in you.
In Jesus Name.Amen!.

I was feeling very anxious about Barbara during the night, it was uncanny.   I hope to hear from her over the next couple of days.  Thank you all for your prayers.

PS: Just tried ringing her but no answer and she doesn't have an answering service.

Bit later:  Just spoke to Barbara on 'phone and she is feeling absolutely fine, was out at the shops when I rang earlier.   She is going to have small doses of chemo weekly for thirty weeks but apparently the medics are very pleased with her progress and she will be assessed weekly, as well as her assessing herself.
She sounded great and I am so pleased.

Barbara starts her weekly chemotherapy tomorrow, she sent me a leaflet about it and I must say it looks pretty grim with the possible and probable side effects but I won't say that to her; she appears to be unworried.  She had a blood test yesterday to ensure she would be well enough to start the chemo and that is something else she'll be having weekly.

Please continue to pray for Barbara.  Thank you.
