Tariffs on films? ? ?

Indeed.
It is quite possible that a film could be shown at a thousand cinemas without a single physical copy ever having existed in the USA.

Listening to an Americast podcast today where it was suggested by a listener that there should be a 'What are we missing' section to loom at what the Trump administration is pushing through that is being hidden by the more obvious things. I think  it posits that the administration is choosing what to hide rather than working on the assumption that if it throws a lot of shit at a wall some will stick. It's not choosing to create good days to hide bad news.  It's creating so much bad news that some of it will just be accepted.

Did Donald Trump get to be President by being an idiot. That would be to suggest that to be an idiot is the only qualification required.
He came from money but he was capable of building his own empire and he did what he said he would do and he defeated all his opponents.

There is much more to trump than others can think or know, He has the power to obtain those things he has sought through life. So what is it that made people vote for him?
Stronger than anything we know. He is where he wants to be. We can complain but he is the president.

What about his actions and the way no one thought he would get in again. May be that they cannot get anyone better in the USA now. Maybe they settle for what is best out of previous candidates.
They need another JFK, but they kill anyone even similar. Could be there plan at present because Donald Trump would take some beating. 8)

Did Donald Trump get to be President by being an idiot.

I'd say 'despite', but yes.

Quote
That would be to suggest that to be an idiot is the only qualification required.

No, just that it unfortunately doesn't discount you as it should.

Quote
He came from money but he was capable of building his own empire and he did what he said he would do and he defeated all his opponents.

Despite the mythologising, he is not a successful businessman in any meaningful way. He's repeatedly had ventures go bankrupt, the businesses he has kept afloat there's ample evidence to show have done so through fraud, deceptive practices and simply not paying what was owed to suppliers and contractors.

Quote
There is much more to trump than others can think or know, He has the power to obtain those things he has sought through life.

No, there isn't. He's patently a shallow, vacuous, selfish, self-important, feckless, spiteful, narcissistic, racist moron. What there is, around and behind him, is a collection of wealthy, sociopathic donors with a vested interest in keeping Americans poor and stupid, who don't give a shit if there's a world-wide recession or increased warfare, because as long as they know when it's coming they can turn a profit from it.

Quote
So what is it that made people vote for him?

Lies and propoganda, over decades of underinvestment in education and a constant weakening of the courts and the governance of the media.

Quote
Stronger than anything we know.

Hate? No, I think we all know how strong hate can be.

Quote
He is where he wants to be.

He's where someone with money wants him to be, is more relevant.

Quote
We can complain but he is the president.

This is true.

Quote
What about his actions and the way no one thought he would get in again. May be that they cannot get anyone better in the USA now. Maybe they settle for what is best out of previous candidates.

Of the two candidates in the election race he was demonstrably the worse. Then the other candidate changed, and he was still demonstrably worse. The Republic primaries were a shit-show, and he was demonstrably the shittiest in show. They can't get anyone better in the US right now, not because they aren't there, but because significant portions of the America public have fallen victim to an elaborately maintained right-wing hoax lying to them about what the problems with their country are and what the Trumpian movement is going to do about it.

Quote
They need another JFK, but they kill anyone even similar.

No, they just needed basic competence and decency. They were the most powerful military in the world, the most wide-spread soft-power nation in the world, the strongest economy and the on the rise when other developed economies were stagnant or struggling. Now much of that - with perhaps the exception of the military - is in jeapordy.

Quote
Could be there plan at present because Donald Trump would take some beating. 8)

Report the truth, and spread it far and wide. Show the MAGA faithful what's actually happening - they aren't so stupid they'll vote against their interests when they're show what they are, it just needs someone who can reach them and help them understand what's being done to them, in their own name.

Donald Trump became president for three reasons:

1  The US president is not elected by the popular vote but by the Electoral College.

2  The Electoral College is essentially tribal in its construction. It is constructed so that the wishes of electors living in small, agricultural states have greater influence than large, industrial and commercially important states.

3  The predominant tribal structure (MAGA) which supports Trump is endemic in small, agricultural states

Indeed, he did win the popular vote - by 1.5%

And eight years earlier he lost the popular vote by 2% and still became president because the Electoral College converted his proportion of the vote into about 60%.

Trump makes so many statements, the credibility of which beggar belief. If instead of being factual his presidency was featured in a novel or drama people would probably say it wasn't credible, no one would vote for someone like him as he isn't right in the head!

Unfortunately, most Americans are morons. They voted for him twice.

Not really. Yes, he won the popular vote (just). But those that didn't vote at all and those that voted against him far outnumber his supporters, although some of the non voters may have fallen into his camp.

Whatever the figure most Americans are not morons.

He was asked a question by a lady with a South African accent, and then the S.A. president butted in to answer the question. Trump obviously had prepared evidence to back himself up, and it seemed to show black South Africans saying they would 'occupy land with or without permission from the government'.
So maybe not evidence for genocide, but seems there is still a problem.

Have you watched the whole thing? The video played in the Oval Office shows the leader of a S. African opposition party  calling for Boers and farmers to be killed.

You are not bothered about the fact that this was a complete misrepresentation of the state of affairs in S. Africa? Quelle surprise.

If you can be bothered to read this, I doubt you will, because it doesn't fit in with your bizarre worldview, it explains in some detail why Trump is wrong:

Calls for violence are not unusual in politics these days:

So you think that the comments of a minor political party leader justify the White House lies?

I will look at your links, since you can't be bothered to briefly set out in your post what they say.

This subject is new to me, and whether what happened was a misrepresentation or not, there is a problem in S A. My brother lived there for several years and described a stretch of road that he was scared to drive along because of black yobs. His work there was for the benefit of black people, btw.

I've read a lot of comments on YouTube by white South Africans saying that Trump was right.

Apparently the song being chanted on the video is legal in SA. As is the expropriation of land for public use. Trump's point, as I understand it, was that the US has a lot of white South African refugees due to violence against them.
