Family decide to picnic with cheetahs

On the PM programme - an interview with someone from a Dutch safari park where a family got out of their car in a cheetah area. Sounds as if they were lucky all to get back to their car unharmed. What completely stupid behaviour.

A French family in a Netherlands safari park. Some discussion about what kind of person videos a family clearly in peril rather than go and rescue them from their foolishness.

Numpties! Mind you, if these cats weren't habituated to humans, they would probably be frightened....cheetahs are the most nervous of tyhe big cats. This doesn't mean that this family were not terminally thick.

Apparently, the adults would be safe - being sufficiently tall to appear as potential threats for the cheetahs. But the children are prey size, and very vulnerable.

Extremely stupid behaviour I fully agree, but I am still trying to work out what values are possessed by someone who videos this behaviour and then puts it onto YouTube for the world to witness but does nothing to warn them of the danger.

People used to keep the smaller big cats, such as cheetahs, as pets - I don't think they're terribly dangerous to humans; they're more interested in Thompson's gazelles. It was still stupid behaviour, though.

Certainly seems daft. I mean, adults can take chances with their own safety - if they want - but with their children's? Ridiculous people.

About 15+ years ago, when we lived at the previous property, I went into the garden one morning and thought I saw a big cat with a very long tail, resembling a panther, disappearing over the garden wall into the wooded area beyond. I didn't see it again and just added it to the list of weird things which happened there. A day or two later, I discovered that a big cat had been seen in our area of Flintshire. :o
