My ex-wife...
« on: June 21, 2018, 10:44:48 AM »
...from whom I've been divorced for 28 years, but with whom I'm still good chums, had a severe stroke yesterday, and is now in hospital, stable but seriously ill. Thoughts and prayers appreciated.

She's hanging on, and conscious but very drowsy. We shall see. Thanks for thoughts, prayers and comments.

Steven take heart. I don't know if you and she had any children, if so it must be hard for them to see their mother so ill. What I wanted to say is it is wonderful what is done for stroke patients these days, the really intensive neurological input and care, a lot do recover or become well enough to be independent. I've known a couple of people who did really well after a stroke, it's not like the old days (one of my grands and an aunt, both docs, used to talk about that and how much medical treatment in the field of strokes ((they didn't call them 'strokes', they were'CVAs' or something else but never mind that)) ), had advanced. So I hope that is the case for your ex, she can't be that old I think as you've said you're still at work. Does she have a husband/partner? Sorry if I am asking too much, you don't have to say.

Bless you & all the loved ones.

Better than expected, apparently, thanks for asking. It's a very serious stroke, there's no getting away from that, but she's out of danger and has been moved to another hospital.

Better than expected at this stage, though not good. I went to see her last Saturday. Her left arm is no use, but she can walk with help. A little dopy mentally, but you can have a sensible conversation with her.

I was wondering how she was getting on.It's amazing what can be done for stroke patients in terms of rehab nowadays. It sounds as though she is making progress, I hope it continues &she is able to keep her spirits up. Good that she has you to encourage her.

How are you Steve and how are your family and wife coping with everything?
Progress can seem slow with a stroke but hang in there. x

How is your ex-wife doing, Steven?  I expect she was glad to see her granddaughter for the first time. How are you coping too?
