ABBA could sue the Tories!
« on: October 04, 2018, 11:57:53 AM »
I came to realise that every time we recognise something human in creatures, we are also recognising something creaturely in ourselves. That is central to the rejection of human supremacism as the pernicious doctrine it is.

Sorry the link seems to be broken.

I would not have thought that ABBA needed the money. If anybody should sue Mrs May it should have been the young lady who was the lead dancer in the 1976 promo film.

The link works for me.
It's not aquestion of the money, but of protecting their copyright. According to the article, a Danish far-right party used one of their songs without permission, and they sued them, because they never give permission for any of their songs to be used in a political context.

Back in the year erm, Justin Hayward complained to the American military because they had used his song "Dawning is the Day" to back a recruitment ad without asking his permission.

(To my ear it is not even one of his better numbers).

I'd have thought a better choice, given the current circs, would the the Stones 'You Can't Always Get What You Want'.

It was cringeworthy and someone in Tory HQ needs their collar felt (plus I can't stand ABBA anyway).

Link works for me too. Am staggered that they didn't ask permission. What a bunch of muppets.

Copyright for pop is fierce.  I remember trying to get permission for a few lines in a book, and after several months of lawyer's letters, we gave up.  Yes, muppets.
They were the footprints of a gigantic hound!

And that on top of their app which gave away thousands of private personal details, and may cost them a big fine.

D:Ream, actually. Professor Brian Cox, the brainiac who presents science programmes and works at Cern was their keyboard player for a few years.

Glad to hear it!
(Tho' would be interesting if they hadn't....)

Well I never. Not a lotta people know that.

(When I think of Brian Cox I don't automatically think of the physicist but of the Scottish actor. Not relevant to this thread.)
