Damn you, BBC, for putting 'Call the Midwife' up against 'Christmas Crow'! I think I'll watch the latter, and watch C the M later on iplayer. In general, BBC2 looks like the channel of choice tonight. What will other people be watching?

Scoured the schedules but nothing much is appealing.

Watched The Dead Room last night (a ghost story) by Mark Gattis, I could see what he was attempting. Sadly it didn't work for me.

The Jungle Book (2016) was on just at the right time for me. An excellent variation on the earlier Disney version. This Mowgli is quite an acrobat and a very good young actor.

Evenin' all. Hope everyone's had a good day.

I watched 'Call the Midwife' which was very heartwarming, looking forward to the new series. Now I have 'Eastenders' on (it followed) which I haven't watched since I don't know when and it is not heartwarming.

Saw the 'Strictly' Christmas edition which is lightweight compared to the series but it was fun.

Husband half asleep on sofa, dad is in other room talking to my daughter and other grandchildren who walked round. I said to my daughter if she was bored with just the three of us, why not go round to my sister and see her cousins this evening but a couple of them came here and they're laughing.

We skyped out eldest in America around lunch time (lunch time for us), she's happy, her boyfriend is out there with her. Was good to talk and see her and her sister got quite emotional, I said, "Calm down, she'll be back in the new year". We saw her in September.

Well this thread is about telly and maybe I should have put some on the Christmas thread but no matter.

Christmas tv is crap. Liked it when it was repeats of The Two Ronnies and Carry On films.

A few days ago there were a few Carry On films on TV, I noticed when I was flicking through the list and in a few minutes 'Carry On Follow that Camel' will be on ITV3. I've seen that one and from what I remember, found it quite funny - Bernard Bresslaw as Mustafa Leak. Not going to watch it now though, just thought I'd tell you we are not completely 'Carry On' free.

Christmas lunch yesterday with a friend just over the road, then watched Queen's speech. Just now I thought I'd watch it again, so googled for link. Clicked on one about 'criticism of Queen sitting in a room with a golden piano' ... and read a few of the comments. What dreadful old misery-guts some people are, saing things like: what about the people having to go to food banks , or, she should have considered the feelings of those who cannot have golden pianos.
Well, then I found the right link.

Do these moaners really think it would have been better to have an old, tatty piano in the room? They had a TV to watch, a computer to enable them to express their views, and just what sort of an image of this country do they want to present to the world.

Just supposing that all the Queen's personal wealth was taken away from her and distributed evenly amongst all the poor, what do people think about how such funds would be used. Yes, some would use it wisely to give them and their families more security, but others.....?

I didn't notice the gold piano but it was probably only gold coloured. I've never heard of a real gold piano. Her Christmas tree looked very good.

Ad-o the Two Ronnies was on BB4 earlier. Oh and I see there are lots more 'Carry Ons' onITV3. For me, a bit of quiet and solitude, no-one else up.

Missed Madge, but read about the golden piano, and saw a photo. I thought it was ill-judged: she doesn't have to do it in spartan surroundings, but such conspicuous wealth on-screen at a time when many are struggling is a bit thoughtless.
Watched BBC2 from about 5:50 (half-way through 'Only Connect' until 9:15, encompassing OC, 'Christmas University Challenge', about the first 10 minutes of 'Mary Berry's Country House at Christmas' before switching off for a bit and going online, because it wasn't really my kind of prog. Switched on again for 'Dad's Army' and 'Upstart Crow', which was brilliant as usual, with Will and friends doing 'A Christmas Carol', to make Robert Greene repent of his nasty ways, before the real ghost of Christmas future, who had told the story to Will in the first place, takes over and scares the shit out of Greene, after which he is a reformed character, taking an enormous goose round to the house of Job Scratchit. It turns out from RT that the real ghost wasplayed by Kenneth Branagh - I didn't recognise him.
Then switched to Channel 5 for a long documentary called 'Tommy Cooper In His Own Words'. Brilliant.

Happily managed to miss Lizzie again yesterday. I rememberwatching about fort years ago...and haven't bothered since then. We had a survey here in Scotland in the main broadsheet, the Herald, a few years back...yes, I know, newspaper polls and all that....only 6% admitted watching it....and of those under the age of 60, 72% had never seen it at all.

You don't really think the Queen herself sorted out exactly where and in front of what to sit, do you? It would have been BBC producers, advisers, etc.

Yes, of course it was: I didn't say otherwise. However, I'm sure Madge has some input: after all, she's got more experience of Christmas broadcasts than any of the youngsters who work for the media!

When you talked about Madge, I first of all thought you meant Madonna!

I honestly didn't notice the gold piano, she was at a desk & the room looked cosy and Christmassy. That was my impression I'm not much of a one for details. I've now looked at a picture of the 'gold' piano, an ornate & rather vulgar piece in my opinion! The 'gold' will probably roll off. Quite how I could have missed it I don't know. I doubt that many people were outraged, the media love stirring up a storm. The Queen is the last person to deliberately rub poor people's noses in her wealth.

Doesn't surprise me at all that most young people don't watch the Queen's speech, I didn't when I was young, I doubt my children ever have unless they've caught bits of it. It\s not really a 'young' thing. I like it now though, must be getting old :-). Come to think I don't remember my parents watching when I was growing up. I didn't see it yesterday at the time, watched on catch up.

Quiet day to ourselves today, lovely.

Morecambe and Wise on BBC2 tonight. I don't know whether or not I'll watch, I'm enjoying the peace and quiet. Somebody was talking about Nanny McFee the other day and that's on ITV2 this afternoon. In the meantime, Carry On films are carrying on throughout the afternoon on ITV3, I dunno what ad-o was complaining about.

Interestingly, and possibly only for aficionados, two of the M & W shows on BBC2 tonight are "lost shows". The tapes were found in a cinema in Sierra Leone. They are from the first M&W series in colour on the BBC I believe.

Really, Sierra Leone? I expect they'll be shown again.

I had a nap then watched another, older, Christmas 'Call the Midwife' from two or three years ago. I remembered some bits of it but didn't see it all at the time so was very pleased to watch. It was better than last night's episode.

Watched On The Buses the other day. Liked it as a kid. Haven't watched it for at least thirty years. This time round I couldn't help thinking it was just crap.
