I don't see why City Traders are anymore special than other workers.

They aren't - they will still be working long hours as was made clear in the link

I realise that, I was just wondering why they thought they were entitled to work shorter hours. People with much more important jobs, like those in the medical profession, work very long hours, if anyone deserves shorter ones it is them.

It's all covered in the article.

Makes sense to me too, so many young people working in that field burn themselves out quickly, it's a seriously pressurised environment, non stop for hours and can't take their eyes off the ball for a minute. Well done to you for doing it at one time. I wouldn't have lasted five minutes  :D.

Then there's the hard drinking to 'wind down', marriages break up - I know they often do anyway but that really is a job that causes great stress to a family.

I wasn't a trader but it was brutal. I worked for the exchange itself.

The title of this story is misleading. The city traders are not saying "we want to work 9 to 4", they are saying "we want the markets to be open between 9 and 4 so that they can then work slightly less insane hours.

The title is in quotes, so I'm assuming you copied it from the BBC article headline and then they subsequently changed it to "City traders: We want shorter working hours" to make it not a lie.

Yep, your assumption is correct but I would hope that people would read the link.
