What types of Swiss army knives are there? I've only ever seen one basic type, the tools vary a bit. Very useful they are too, people always had them at one time.

There are umpteen ttypes available - fakes as well as genuine articles.
Victorinox, IMO, make the best. The most modern ones have built in USB sticks, etc, and the basics have the two blades plus afile. I use the SwissChamp, which has fifty functions, from two different types of screwdriver, two saws, file magnifiere, bottle opener, tin opener, pliers, scissors, two blades, pen, tweezers, etc. I've had it since I wasv a young Boys' Brigade officer, and many a scrape it's got me out of.

A would be murderer (stabber) wouldn't use a Swiss army knife, it has so many 'bits' and by the time you got the blade out, your prey would have fled. I expect that's why people are generally permitted to carry one.

I have lots of knives for gardening, including Swiss, it has a screwdriver, useful .  I think 3 inch blades are legal in public, we have a ferocious 6 inch thing, leave it at home.

My husband has a large tool box with everything he requires for all the jobs he does around the house, including Stanley knives. When our children and grandchildren were small the box was kept well out of their way so they wouldn't injure themselves.

That's me banged up, then: i always carry a Victorinox pocket knife with me. It comes in handy for all sorts of things. I think the present law is about right: it is illegal to carry a knife with a blade longer than 3", any non-folding knife, any folding knife with a lockable blade, and folding knives with blades that spring out ("flick knives"). Obviously, if you buy a kitchen knife in a shop, you've got to get it home, but you're presumably ok if you leave it in the packaging until you get home. However, I think that the police should be allowed to use their discretion about whether to arrest someone technically in breach of the law, or just give them an informal warning, and majistrsates to use theirs regarding appropriate sentence if the person is arrested and charged. If I bought a new kitchen knife in Wilco, and took it out of its packaging to have a look at it in a local cafe before I got home, I'd be a bit miffed if I ended up doing time.

EG is mucked-about-with tea. I prefer un-mucked-about-with tea, iseally loose Yorkshire tea, in a teapot, two generous rounded teaspoons per pint (i.e. one per mug), brewed for 5 minutes, and served with the merest whisper of milk and a level teaspoon of sugar.
