Outwardly I will appear to enjoy myself but inwardly I feel this

What has disappointed me this year is the lack of the traditional War on Christmas.

We are normally away over Christmas but having big holiday at end of Feb so will be at home this year. Just my wife, and I, and the orang-utan, and the penguin, watching traditional Christmas films, drinking champagne and fine clarets, eating salmon and cheese and ethereal vol au vents.

What are 'ethereal' vol au vents when they're at home? I'm deeply jealous of you having a penguin and orang-utan.
(Where are you going on hol end Feb?)

Here y''are.

That's more like it. Disappointed you had to go all the way to America to find an example though.

Vol au vents so light that they have to be tied to the plate else they escape.

Holiday is Hong Kong and Borneo - to see more orang-utans.

Home, three weeks off work, littlest one's first Christmas, the toddler's first Christmas where he gets it, the other two kids are still at home - games, talk, television, excited children, two visits to Santa, one visit to the Gruffalo (?), one visit to each of the in-laws... it's going to be busy, but fun :)

I can't imagine what Christmas will be like when we've no children at home!!!

Once they have left home you don't have excited kids disturbing your sleep by opening their stockings about 3am on Christmas morning.  ;D

A rather lovely Christmas story

Hmmm... I'll have to visit Embankment station some time soon, to see if that's true. Until then, I have my doubts. Nice story, but you read this sort of thing regularly on the interweb, and usually it's gonads.

From Wikipedia, so it must be true. (Sarcasm.) "In March 2013 an old "Mind the gap" recording by the actor Oswald Laurence was restored to the curved northbound platform at Embankment station on the Northern line so that the actor's widow could hear his voice."

[Edit] OK, I give in. It appears to be true. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-21719848

I have bought presents for my husband, eldest girl and DS son as we will be together on Christmas Day. I have given money to our other children and the grandchildren. I never wrap presents, I have always been hopeless at doing so, but now my fingers are so arthritic it is very hard indeed.

Celebrating Newton's birthday on the 25, at least he really did exist and arguably his works on Principia Mathematica is far more use to humanity than that other book of mixed superstitions ever was.

Merry Christmas everybody!!

Regards to all, ippy.

Isaac Newton and I share the same home town. He and I went to the same school - not at the same time but I think we may shared some of the same teachers ,,,  ::)

Wow those teachers must have been very old indeed if you both shared some of them, Newton being so much younger than you. :P ;D

The headteacher at my elementary school (4-14) had been a young teacher when my grandfather was a pupil. He kept falling asleep whilst he was teaching us!

I've just recieved a couple of short videos from my daughter in Australia of my 6 year old grandson receiving (not opening) gifts from family in England . He's such a cute kid and through my tears I could see the joy and hear his Australian accent as he thanked the senders for his presents .
I miss them so much my insides hurt 🎅🎄🎁

It is so sad your family is so far away, :( I am very grateful my family are close by.

I feel your pain, Walter, I'm only on an overnight stay for work in Manningtree and it's painful to have to hang up on the kids when it's time for them to go to bed.
