Has she tried doing the software update? If your TV is connected to the Internet, which I guess it must be if you used to be able to use iPlayer, the update process is really simple and has only four steps.

https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/tv-audio-video/how-do-i-update-the-software-on-my-samsung-smart-tv/

Get that done and then we can talk about updating the iPlayer app.
like my old granny LR still can't get her head round how they fit all those people inside that little box ? 😆

Apparently as of yesterday there has been a problem for the owners of some Samsung tv receivers.

Samsung recommend that people affected visit the following website:

Sound quality is the predominant problem with new televisions. Manufacturers have concentrated on picture quality (4K screens are available for little more than the cost of 1080p sets now) and the fashion is for tv receivers with new technology screens to be extremely thin. Unfortunately, thin-bodied receivers do not have the internal volume necessary for high quality sound reproduction and some are sold with an additional sound bar as a package deal. Some sound bars are able to make a reasonable attempt at delivering 5.1 surround sound.

Which? regularly provides assessments of currently-marketed tv receivers. The cheaper models sold by High Street dealers (Argos, Currys, Tesco, Sainsburys etc) are frequently reported as having poor sound. Which? almost always recommends models from LG or Samsung with Sony and Panasonic as further choices.

We know what WHICH recommends as we never buy anything of any value without consulting it first.

I haven't a clue what you are talking about, never mind, no doubt everything will be sorted out in the New Year.

If you have a H D M I socket on your T V you can plug in an Amazon Firestick which will then operate on your spoken requests to it for any of the catch ups on offer including the iPlayer.

Oh yes You'll need a power source for the Firestick; some T Vs have a U S B connection as well as a H D M I socket if your T V has one it could be used as the power supply for the Firestick if no U S B socket you can otherwise just plug it in to a convenient electrical socket for its power supply.

I think the Firesticks are about £60 a piece or thereabouts, I have one and it's quite simple to use and the £60 is a lot cheaper than a new T V.

My own T V isn't a smart T V but it is the same as a smart T V when you add a Firestick, there are similar products on the market with different product names so I've only mentioned the product I've experience of.

Regards, ippy.

OK - then perhaps you will be good enough to report their decisions/actions back to this forum.

The other day the BBC iplayer started working again on our TV, without any intervention on our part.
