2020 - feck off
« on: December 23, 2020, 03:50:14 PM »
As we approach the New Year, I find myself reviewing the past year. In all of the fecking misery, a couple of bright spots- I have seen more of my wife than I would normally because she hasn't been travelling for business since end Feb, and I have had a number of friendships grow much closer even if only by virtual means. But it's for many reasons been a binfire of a year.

I know this little community has its differences but it's been a help to me this year, and I would particularly like to thank my fellow mods. I'm sad that events have stopped me meeting up with Gordon for 10 months.

It's going to be hard Christmas season for many. Please take care. Reach out if needed,

I will be very pleased to see the back of 2020, it has not been a good year for us, the virus certainly hasn't helped. :o

We might not all see eye to eye on R&E, but it is still the best forum on which I have posted. :)

I do hope everyone here has a much better 2021.

I would echo much of what has already been said by LR and NS.

Even when I disagree with something the place still feels like a fairly safe haven in this increasingly bewildering world.

I'm with NS on this, and I too miss our previously regular meet-ups (inc. with Gonnagle).

It has been an awful year generally, and there have been a couple of things family wise that have been problematic too, but I suppose the turn of the year does represent the possibility of things being better - whether they will be is another matter, but I suppose a dash of positivity does no harm.

This place, though less busy that we'd like, does seem to stumble on Lazarus-like, and perhaps has a small and familiar role in the pattern of daily life for most of us regulars (and the irregulars who occasional drop in). It will be here for as long as people still want to come here and I, for one, would find it hard to imagine not ever hearing again the views and general chatter of everyone who regularly posts here.

Second best, surely? ;)
I came to realise that every time we recognise something human in creatures, we are also recognising something creaturely in ourselves. That is central to the rejection of human supremacism as the pernicious doctrine it is.

General agreement with all above - well,  except for post #4! :)

And yes, most of us have been here since BBC days and it has been a daily highlight since then, especially during this difficult year. All credit and thanks to the mods for managing it.
