Back in the days when it was common to ask the landlord in pubs for a mixture of beers, one popular mixture was "Mother-in-law" - old and bitter.
I came to realise that every time we recognise something human in creatures, we are also recognising something creaturely in ourselves. That is central to the rejection of human supremacism as the pernicious doctrine it is.

I hate the Karen business which has drifted over here from the States where it is rife. It's so unfair, imagine if your name was Karen? I haven't heard it much and am glad of that.
