Love
« on: January 08, 2023, 05:48:43 AM »
Hi everyone,

We use the word 'love' in many different ways.....most often to indicate wants and desires rather than love.

Here is something on what love actually means.....

https://tsriramrao.wordpress.com/2016/05/28/love/

Cheers.

Every person  with raging hormones believes he is in ‘love’ and that, it is his divine right to pursue and win over his chosen mate (even by force or threat)….never mind that she is not interested or that she is attracted to someone else or is even someone else’s wife.

Not only does this section smack of sexism it also makes an entirely untrue statement that every person believes it is his "divine right".

I've never believed that even when I was in the throes of raging hormones, be that many years ago now.
If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them. - God is Love.

So, love is more than a feeling,
Love is more than you've been searching  for.
Not my words. The words of the Bostonists.

At least these Bostonists aren't more rapey, I suppose.

That love as a concept covers many different aspects is hardly a new idea. That there is one true meaning as seems to be suggested seems to make a claim that not only isn't backed up but cannot be backed up as it's based on a misunderstanding of how language works.

Indeed after all Love is a battlefield, or it's like a butterfly, or is like an open door, though it is in the air, and since it's like oxygen that may be true, though oddly it is like a burning arrow, and also warm, it can hit you like thunder which may be it being in the air again, and amazingly it can build a bridge, but also break down walls, and save the day.

But it's a dangerous drug. You have to receive and you still can't get enough of the stuff. It's all you need but money can't buy it.

You guys are probably talking about romance. Romance is magical and wonderful, no doubt. We are attracted and attached to someone. But that's not love.

Romance is a need, an impulse, a desire. It can drive one crazy. But it is all about oneself...not about the other person. When it breaks it is not always pretty.  Can be nasty, in fact.

And that is my point. We are under the illusion that we love someone when all the while we are merely satisfying our own need.  We justify our attractions and desires under the name of love. 'Love can't be bad, surely'!

You appear to have corrected the article - but not suitably.

I note that there offending section is no longer overtly sexist - but it remains appalling, specifically:

... people believe that it is their divine right to pursue and win over their chosen mate (even by force or threat)"

I've highlighted the offending elements - what you are doing is justifying sexual assault, rape and aggravated rape. That is what is being implied.

I don't believe that, and nor I think do the vast, vast majority of people - regardless of whether it is justified as 'divine' right or just their right. And this has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with love - this is criminal behaviour if actioned.

But then again, what's it got to do with it, and what is it but a second-hand emotion?
I came to realise that every time we recognise something human in creatures, we are also recognising something creaturely in ourselves. That is central to the rejection of human supremacism as the pernicious doctrine it is.
