Northern Ireland terrorism threat level rises ..<for the first time in 12 years>...
The terrorism threat level in Northern Ireland has been raised from substantial to severe,
...The attack was admitted by the New IRA, the biggest and most active group dissident group,
As a broadbrush, there are groups that want to remain in the United Kingdom (Unionists) and those who want to stay in "The Island of Ireland" (Republicans). I think it's increasingly likely that these "new" protocols will impact on one view, then the other in a vicious circle.
