Title: Jeremy's cooking tips
Post by: jeremyp on July 15, 2015, 06:51:26 PM
I was going to put this on Hope's cooking thread, but it's been derailed enough already.

My cooking tip is to eat out, but maybe not here

I think that if you’re going to eat beef, you want to know it has come from an animal that has moved. This steak slips down like something that has spent its life chained to a radiator in the basement.

At my advanced age I'm not convinced that you can significantly improve on my granddad's sole cooking tip: if it's brown, it's cooked; if it's black, it's knackered.

I'd like to suggest Install Hungry House app but they only have one bloody restaurant on their list that deliver to us.

My ex believed that if you were in doubt enough ketchup would render it edible for sure.

Granddad not a fan of black pudding then?  ;)

Shaker,
To a cook that knows how to cook, your gramp's tip would be ignored, thank God.

Congratulations Mr Canoe, it seems the sense of humour bypass has been a complete success ::)

That's no way to cook sole Shaker. Outside appearance means nothing, and that really applies when poaching. Duh! But I don't imagine your gramps was talking about sole. You added that thinking that you are clever and funny, which of course you are not.

Actually I thought it was both clever and funny. Oh, Johnny, what will we do with you? Why ruin a humourous moment just so you can snipe?

And why act as though you don't know that the word "sole" has more than one meaning? As though pretending you don't know something will make you seem cleverer than someone who does? Makes no sense.

I don't think bad cooking tips to be funny, sole or no sole. But I spent a couple decades cooking in restaurants and prior to that a couple years learning the craft at SAIT. Our chefs did NOT joke around about cooking.
Now no need to try and stir the pot Cyber. (smilies)

What a shame.

Anyway, their choice. That doesn't mean it is wrong for Shaker to do so.
My cooking usually gets a laugh.

Just didn't find his joke funny nor is his gramp's tip very smart. My opinion, that's all Cyber. If that was a tip from gramps then it is no wonder Shaker is turned off meat. Yes people who have little respect for the profession tend to joke about it. If Shaker used that joke in class, one of the chefs would have bounced Shaker's big old butt down the hall and out the doors. Anyways I look forward to reading some posts that take it seriously. Until then.
