Title: Search Engines
Post by: Hope on August 11, 2015, 02:00:32 PM
An interesting item on Jeremy Vine's Radio 2 show on the way in which Google (and other search engines) use information you 'provide' (in emails, internet searches, etc.) to push advertising in your direction - and that fact that they then sell this kind of data to businesses - and potentially less 'snooping' search engines.  DuckDuckGo was mentioned in this context.  Any others that folk here use to avoid Google and the 'big' names.

I am not interested in advertisements, they are more likely to put me off a product than want to buy it!

So, do you use a search engine other than Google, Bing, and most of the 'big' named search engines?

By the way, I missed out the fact that many of these big engines 'track' your internet activity, hence affording you less privacy.

I admit to using Google. I realise my activity is tracked as I get a resume every month, but as I have nothing I wish to hide it doesn't worry me.
