Title: Happy Birthday Robert
Post by: Gonnagle on January 25, 2016, 09:57:08 AM
Dear Romantics,

Just been reminded that today is Rabbie Burns birthday, I was going to put this on the "Music was my first Love" thread but just for today I think the great man deserves a thread of his own.

14 kids by 4 different women, nae wonder the poor fella died so young.

Quote
“Some hae meat and canna eat,
And some wad eat that want it,
But we hae meat and we can eat,
And sae the Lord be thankit.”

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o the puddin'-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye worthy o' a grace
As lang's my arm.

It is, once more, that time of year when I can recount what happened when they translated the Address to the Haggis into German and then to English and the first lines came out as

'Here's to you, handsome large Kaiser of the sausage people!'

As it happens it's my b'day too - I always think its kind of some of our Scottish friends to lay on parties just for me!
