A staple of Saturday night telly when I was a kid, the magician Paul Daniels, is reportedly close to death. He was diagnosed with an inoperable and fast-growing brain tumour two weeks ago; his son Martin has said that he has returned home to see out his final days: http://goo.gl/EkpDq2

Was saddened to hear about the original situation - a week or so ago - and am both sad and glad that he has been able to come home to spend his last days with his family.

Paul Daniels has now passed away:

God rest his soul.
May his family find their comfort and find solace during their mourning.

I am sorry to hear a bout Paul Daniels' death. He was a very good magician and ilusionist.
Shaker, may I ask: why did you say 'passed away' rather than 'has died'? Just curious.

No idea Susan - was just a phrase that came to the fingers.

Debbie McGee on her life with the millionaire Paul Daniels.

It is so sad to see how brave she has been for Paul and how strained things must have been. Let's hope she is allowed to grieve in privacy and that she will be okay during this time when things really hit her. God bless her and watch over his whole family. :'(

Thanks for the BBC article jp.
I didn't like Paul Daniels all that much but he was good at what he did, very polished. Children were particularly entertained. I remember mine, when small, liking him very much and doing little magic shows :-[.
It must be something of a comfort to his family that he didn't have a long, drawn out illness. RIP.

Another nicely done piece from Newsthump.

Oh dear. This won't do. I go to Newsthump for bitter and sarcastic snark on the day's politics, not a rather lovely and touching indirect tribute to a mainstay of my childhood and by all accounts a nice, kind and gentle man recently deceased.

Another childhood name bites the dust :(
RIP Paul Daniels
