Title: A quote apposite to this forum, as a whole, from Sir Terry Pratchett
Post by: Owlswing on March 14, 2016, 12:26:39 AM

From the book Monsterous Regiment:

The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they've found it.

Depending, of course, on the method used to seek it!

Seeking the truth is fine and laudable, provided it does not make use of wild guesses for which there is no evidence.

I thought you were going to say the "method", as in forcing people to conform to a perceived truth.......

Wild guesses is fine by me, provided it isn't forced on someone else or leads to people hurting each other.

 ;)

Very true! I have only days ago found out where the name and idea came from.

All good and well, if anyone could infinitely define what the truth is suppose to be.

All good and well (should be 'well and good'), if anyone could infinitely(?) define what the truth is suppose(d) to be.

The one that you and your cohorts keep banging on about that all non-Christians keep asking you to prove IS "the truth".

Even you in your blind attachement to the contents of the Biblical Book of Chinese Whispers are not so stupid as to not have worked that out!

"...Chinese Whispers..."
You come off as silly as Rhi, dear matty. But no surprise as you are both into cartoonish earth religion.

Tell me what has your Zeus done for you lately? (snork)

"...blind attachement..."
So how is your faith in Zeus not so blind? And why the extra e in attachment?

Why do you need to know my motives?

Oh Brownie stop being dirty. When one drinks something and it comes out your nose from laughing, that is a snork. You are dirty, cause you didn't know what it meant and looked until you found a dirty meaning and you refuse to accept the meaning that I use the word for. Shame on you. PEOPLE!! DUMMY UP, I DO NOT USE THE OLD DIRTY DEFINITION OF SNORK THAT BROWNIE IS FIXED ON. (snork)

Jeremy,
Really? Pagans can mock my faith and when I mock theirs, up you pop with you dirty gutter insults. You are so transparent I see right through you.

I wish you would stop saying ''snork'', it's revolting and conjours up visions of you sniggering and snorting loudly.

Way way back OMW explained that that is exactly what he means by it!

You didn't mock their faith, you insulted them.

Thanks, jeremyp!

I am grateful that someone else has been able to see the difference. Any attempt to defend myselfor my beliefs, or Rhi to defend herself or hers, is met with further insults; but don't, whatever you do, insult OMW or his faith, as his hurt feelings drive him to go running to the bigger boys (you know which ones I mean in this context) to ask them, no, to demand of them, to beat us awful pagans up for being nasty to the poor defenceless little Christian!

I rarely bother defending my faith - certainly not to people whose opinion I don't respect in the first place.

Hi, Lady Rhi! Good to be able to 'talk' to you again!

Yeah! I do know what you mean. OMW et al have left me with a serious lack of empathy.

They deem any religion but there own to have no value whatsoever - funny that because I have exactly the same opinion of their opinion on my faith.

As I have said on more occasions that I care to remember the thing which I find to be the most negative about Christianity, this being the most prolific source, on this forum, of negativity directed at my beliefs, is their monumental arrogance of their belief that theis and only theirs is right in the matter of religious belief.

They just will not understand that Christianity, like every other religion in the world and every sect and every sub-sect of every religion in the world, bar none, is a matter of BELIEF, of FAITH and not of FACT.

This attitude has attracted to them more dislike, in every degree of the spectrum from mild to outright and murderous hatred, than any other.

I just find it, and their attempts to justify their attitude, can be described in one word - pathetic!

I will challenge any belief that o find harmful, hateful or illogical, it's true. But I still respect the opinions of those who hold them.

Where I lose respect is where posters forget debating ideas and attack other individuals. There's no need for it and it isn't surprising when the patience of others wears thin.

didn't you mean to say "seeking truth is laudable but not as good as ignoring it when you come across it" .........another version of the God dodgers prayer.

Don't be daft! I can't dodge something which I don't believe exists. Furthermore I don't pray to anything, since it is a complete waste of time.

Believe in whatever god makes you happy, dear boy, but sadly for you, you can't prove it to be true.  :)
