The athletics are brilliant. Dina Asher-Smith is such a great advert. But the questions about Doha and whether it is right place seem to haunt the idea.

It is embarrassing - there is no-one there at what is supposed to be the most prestigious athletics-only tournament in the world. Presumably there are some spectators there but the cameras are all facing the side of the stadium which is completely empty. The effect being that any 'crowd' noise appears to be added a bit like canned laughter on a 1970s sit-com.
This is presumably a bit of a dry run for the World cup in 2022 - doesn't bode well.

Utterly mad decision to put the World Cup there

I agree, but money talks.
I guess the only positive of the World Athletics is that it seems to show that the temperature control system in the stadium works - or at least does in that single venue.

Brilliant racing in the women's 400M flat and hurdles.

Some great performances, amazing from Callum Hawkins getting 4th in the men's marathon.

I heard that both men's and women's 4x100 GB relay teams won silver medals. Was it close, or a large gap between them and gold?

Not particularly close. The women were 0.41 behind the Jamaican team but a good performance. The men were 0.26 behind an exceptional US team. The US team ran the 3rd fastest time of all time, only bettered by 2 Jamaican times. The UK team ran the 6th fastest time of all time, only beaten by 4 Jamaican times and the US time.
Also Japan in 3rd ran the 14th fastest time of all time. A time that has only previously been beaten by Jamaica and the US
