I think the second test against South Africa tells us everything we need to know about how good of an idea it is.

Agreed. I suppose that 4 day tests could work but it would need a fundamental change in the playing approach, and one that would seem to be to the detriment of what makes great test cricket great.

Apologies for not being clear, I was meaning that currently a 5 day test match can finish in four or less days and while that's fine, it isn't an argument for restricting the days to 4.
